After the initial district meeting with Dr. Wood at DSUSD on December 6th, parents were told we would get the opportunity to examine the Sex Education curriculum for Middle School and High School and that we will be allowed to opt-out our children completely, as long as we do it in writing, and that the district will notify parents before such instructions begins in March of 2019.
Here’s where we need to pay close attention: California Education Code § 51932(b) states that “instruction, materials, presentations, or programming that discuss gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, relationships, or family and do not discuss human reproductive organs and their functions” are not subject to the parental notice and opt-out laws. What does this mean? It means that even if the school district allows us to opt our children out, information will be sneaked in disguised as something else.
As you read this, textbooks continue to be updated and adopted in districts and libraries around the State. History books now include information regarding certain characters’ sexual and love life more than their actual accomplishments. Science books will include the gender spectrum and storybooks such as “My Princess Boy,” “Jacob’s New Dress,” and “It’s Perfectly Normal” will be added to school libraries. Teachers are being prepared on how and where to direct students with gender dysphoria without parental knowledge because according to California law a child 12 years and older has sexual and reproductive rights and the schools need to ensure they know those rights. It is no longer the parents’ choice, and as one of the “web resources” provided to the students through the new sex ed curriculum advocatesforyouth.org states: “Young people understand that reproductive and sexual health and rights are inextricably tied to social justice and the fight for liberation. Join thousands of youth activist and adult allies as we build a better and more equitable world.” Yes, you read it right, apparently our children need to be liberated from our oppression and the state is working hard to make it happen.
