Authored by Democrat Assemblywoman Shirley Weber from San Diego. Approved in 2015, signed by Governor Jerry Brown. It went into effect on January 1, 2016.

The California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA) requires public schools to teach Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), inclusive, at least once in middle school and once in high school.  It allows districts to teach it in grades lower than 7th.

In order to be INCLUSIVE, it has to include ALL Genders and Sexual Orientations. It HAS TO positively affirm sexual orientations, MUST include same sex relationships, and teach about gender, gender expression, gender identity, and explore negative gender stereotypes.
